It is commemorating the 1453 FALL OF CONSTANTINOPLE, the capital of Byzantium and medieval Greeks, to the Muslim Turkish conquerors.
Please note the dead Greeks knights with the arrows in their eyes, etc, and the defeated fallen cross on the foreground.
